Know when to charge

See battery status in Tenon and the system tray. Lightning A2450 reports battery over Bluetooth and USB; supported USB-C models report it over USB. Battery status stays free.

Getting started

Set up your keys in three steps.

The same keyboard controls work over Bluetooth and a USB data cable on supported models.

  1. Connect your Magic Keyboard. Pair it with your PC or plug it in with a USB data cable. Follow the connection guide if you need a hand.
  2. Install the current Tenon beta. Apply for beta access, then use the download page to get the installer.
  3. Open Magic Keyboard in Tenon. Choose your Function row settings and turn on “Use ⌘ for shortcuts” if you want Command to act as Control. Reconnect the keyboard after changing its settings.

Keyboard controls are a Pro feature. See what is included with Tenon. For brightness-key behavior and setup help, use the function-key troubleshooting guide.

Compatibility

Check your keyboard model.

Tenon supports the listed USB-C Magic Keyboard variants, including models with Touch ID or a numeric keypad, and the Lightning A2450. Touch ID fingerprint sign-in is not supported. Other Lightning models and non-US layouts are not confirmed.

Before you install

Can I use an Apple Magic Keyboard on Windows?

Yes. Supported models work over Bluetooth or a USB data cable. Tenon adds media and function-key controls, Command shortcuts and battery status on Windows 11 and Windows 10 22H2, x64. Windows on ARM and 32-bit Windows are not supported.

Does Touch ID work on Windows?

No. Supported Magic Keyboard models with Touch ID can be used for typing and Tenon’s keyboard features, but fingerprint sign-in is not supported.

Does Tenon change my other keyboards?

The Use ⌘ for shortcuts setting applies to the Magic Keyboard. It makes Command send Control for Windows shortcuts without changing the behavior of your other keyboards.
