Magic Trackpad gestures on Windows: the full list

The Apple Magic Trackpad is one of the best trackpads you can buy — but Windows doesn't enable its gestures on its own. Here's the full set that's possible on Windows 10 and 11, and what it takes to turn them on.

What works out of the box

Pair the Magic Trackpad over Bluetooth and Windows sees a basic pointing device — you can move the cursor and click, but multi-finger gestures, smooth scrolling, and force-click are missing. Windows simply has no driver for the trackpad's full capabilities.

The full gesture list

With a driver that registers the Magic Trackpad as a Windows Precision Touchpad, the full set becomes available:

  • Two-finger scroll — smooth vertical and horizontal scrolling.
  • Two-finger swipe — back and forward between pages.
  • Three-finger swipe — switch apps and virtual desktops, or open Task View.
  • Four-finger swipe — move between desktops and show the desktop.
  • Tap-to-click and two-finger right-click.
  • Force-click — full pressure sensitivity for the trackpad's deeper press.

How to enable the full set

  1. Pair the Magic Trackpad in Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
  2. Install a utility that registers it as a Precision Touchpad and reads its multi-touch and pressure data.
  3. Map the three- and four-finger gestures to the Windows actions you want, then tune tap-to-click and force-click to taste.
Tenon brings the full set to Windows. See what Tenon does for the Magic Trackpad, or compare it with Magic Utilities.

Frequently asked

Which Magic Trackpad gestures work on Windows?

With a precision-touchpad driver, the Magic Trackpad supports two-finger scroll and swipe, three- and four-finger swipes for switching desktops and Task View, tap-to-click, two-finger right-click, and force-click. Without a driver, Windows treats it as a basic pointer.

Do I need a driver for the Magic Trackpad on Windows?

Yes. Out of the box Windows only sees a basic pointing device. A utility that registers the Magic Trackpad as a Windows Precision Touchpad is what unlocks the multi-finger gestures and force-click. Tenon (coming soon) does this with one signed install.
